Almost nobody in this range has one pattern, and buying as though you do is the usual reason a match disappoints.

Type 4 hair commonly runs looser at the front and hairline, tighter through the crown, and different again at the nape. Heat damage, colour and past chemical treatment all loosen patterns locally and permanently, so the variation is often larger than it started.

How to buy for that

• Match to the area where the extensions will sit, not to your loosest or your tightest. For most installs that is the back and sides, not the front.
• Match to where your leave-out comes from. If you leave hair out at the front and that section is looser than the rest of your head, match to the front, because that is the hair that has to blend visibly.
• When the spread is wide, go tighter. A slightly tighter extension reads as your hair on a good day. A looser one reads as extensions.
• Consider a closure or a unit if the spread is very wide. Nothing of your own hair is left out, so nothing has to match.

Same texture, three different commitments. The question is not which is better, it is how often you want to change your hair and whether you have a stylist.

Bundles

Wefts installed by a stylist, usually in a sew-in, worn for weeks at a time. The fullest and most seamless result, and the lowest cost per wear over the life of the hair. Your own hair is braided down underneath, which is protective when it is done well.

Clip ins

In and out on your own, same day, no appointment. Right if you wear your natural hair most of the time and want length or fullness occasionally, or if your hair needs a break from tension. Never sleep in them.

A wig or closure unit

Nothing of your own hair left out, so nothing has to blend and your edges are fully protected. The right answer if your leave-out will not match, if you are transitioning, or if you want to change texture week to week.

This texture does both states well, which is most of why people choose it.

Defined

• Soaking wet, leave-in then gel or cream, define in six to ten sections with a defining brush or by twisting.
• Once through each section, then leave it alone until fully dry.
• More product than a type 3 texture needs, less than Jasmine Coil needs.

Stretched

• Band, braid or twist damp hair and let it dry, or blow dry on cool with tension.
• Stretching without heat keeps the pattern intact. Heat stretching repeatedly does not.

Bringing the pattern back

Co wash, light leave-in on soaking wet hair, define in small sections, air dry untouched. Most texture that looks dead is weighed down with product or was dried without definition rather than genuinely damaged.

The exception is heat. A coil pattern relaxed by repeated high heat does not come back, on your hair or on extensions. Heat protectant every time and a moderate temperature is the whole prevention.

With proper care, True + Pure Texture extensions last up to 2 years or more. Because this is textured hair, treat it like your own natural hair rather than like processed extension hair.

• Hydrate lightly. Ultra lightweight leave-in conditioner. Heavy oils weigh the pattern down and flatten the movement that makes the texture work.
• Detangle gently, in small sections, from the ends upward, with a real detangling brush. Pulling causes shedding.
• Cleanse regularly. Buildup is what causes tangling. Moisturizing shampoo, then moisturizing conditioner.
• Heat protectant every time, and go easy. Repeated high heat gradually relaxes a pattern and it does not come back.
• Maintain overnight. Pincurl, twist or braid nightly and tuck into a satin scarf or bonnet. Never sleep on wet or damp hair.

Texture reveal. The hair arrives flatter than it will be, because of packaging and shipping. Once shampooed or co washed, gently detangled and air dried, the full pattern returns.

Length and shrinkage. All lengths are measured stretched. Textured hair shrinks when worn in its natural pattern, and the tighter the pattern the more it shrinks.

What is coily curly hair?
Coily curly is the type 4A to 4B range, the point where a curl becomes a coil. It still shows a visible spiral, unlike tighter type 4 patterns, but it is dense and shrinks hard, unlike type 3 curls.

What is the difference between 4A and 4B hair?
4A coils in a small defined spiral, roughly the circumference of a crochet needle, and reads as curly on its own. 4B bends in sharp angles closer to a Z than a coil, with less visible definition and more density.

Should I choose Layla Curl or Jasmine Coil?
If you can see your curl pattern on dry hair without doing anything, Layla Curl. If your hair reads as dense and undefined until you define or stretch it, Jasmine Coil. They overlap at 4B, where either will blend.

Should I choose Layla Curl or Sasha Curl?
Sasha Curl is a rounded corkscrew in the 3B to 3C range. Layla Curl has sharper bends and more density. If your hair looks like a spring you are Sasha, if it looks like a tight zigzag with some spiral in it you are Layla.

My hair is not all one pattern. What do I match to?
